Living Testimony

… I am living testimony of how a public library can transform a man’s life.” Chris Mbaku

MEDA-USA is to receive two Pentium 4 fully loaded computers and accessories for the Library Project. Upon confirming this with members of the NEC, the donor Mr. Chris Mbaku of Lanham MD asserted his commitment to community development and cited most notably the difference made to his life by the public library in Buea. As Tech Assistant to Prof. Leke Tambo Mr. Mbaku, presently an IT professional, was instrumental in the establishment of the Lewoh, Lebialem Resource Centre during his ENS student dayEND

Dr. Humprey Kem-Bumbala and Mr. Daniel Ndamukong

Public Library Project Launched in Guzang

The Guzang Public Library Project has been launched in the Guzang Village of the Batibo Sub District of Cameroon. This was done on December 29, 2006 amidst high acclaim, expectations and thanks to MEDA USA for putting the children of Moghamo high on their development agenda.

In his lunching address His Royal Highness Fon Gwan Mbanyamsig III of Guzang noted with joy the gratitude of a community “full of enthusiasm to note with great appreciation that this time it is not only the sons and daughters of Guzang but the sons and daughters of Batibo sub division who have seen the need and importance of putting Batibo sub division into the global world communication age”.

This project is designed to be funded and implemented in three phases. The total estimated cost of this project is in the neighborhood of 30 million francs CFA. Your suggestions, generous contributions, and the payment of your Library Development levy of $100 if you are a Moghamoan resident in the USA will go a long way toward fulfilling this dream for the children. So far, MEDA USA has received more than 10 computers and 500 books for this Library and has disbursed 3,000,000 Francs CFA for this project. END

Angum Asenath on the Public Library Fundraising Challenge

      Angum Asenath Mba, Freshman UMD

Freshman Angum Asenath Mba is a leader to be watched. Long before the fundraising strategy for the Library left the drawing boards, she contacted authorities at her UMD with a request they could not turn down.

Do you have some books, computers or software that may be cast away? Our development association – MEDA-USA needs them for the building of the one and only community library and information center that could improve the lives of an otherwise  indigent populace.

From what we hear, that request has now been posted on every electronic information board on their campus. To cut a long story short, Angum’s challenge is to each and every one of us needing an example not to look too far. Colossal and ambitious as this may seem, this is just a tiny portion of what we as a committed people can achieve if our energies are properly redirected. END
